A Soldier in uniform, blond and blue eyed handsome young man who wears a uniform of navy blue, red piping and one gold thread fringe epaulette. I am not an expert in military uniforms, I seem to remember a single epaulette is a young officer, lieutenant rank. I could be wrong. Napoleon III era, c.1850-70, and housed well in the original dore bronze easel frame, slightly convex cover glass also original. The slight halo might be explained with the fact that artists painted body, uniform and left the head blank to be painted quickly, and they set up near Ecole Miliataire, Paris to do just such portraits.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, a slight halo to his painting which would have been original, also. No chips, hairlines, cracks, and a beautifully composed and captured image of this young man with the slightly thinning blond hairline, those light blue eyes. Handsome. No artist's signature, and no ID.
