Entirely hand painted, gorgeous set of 6 soup plates or bowls, were made to be marketed by Tyndale & Mitchel Co. of Philadelphia, and were created by Charles Field Haviland, both marks found on backside of each plate. Note that some are pink and some are blue florals, and all have heavy raised gold enamel work and rim. A gorgeous set, likely one-of-a-kind. Belle Epoch finery. Hector Tyndale, founder, was an incredible officer, leader during the Civil War (you'll want to read about him), and ultimately suffered the remainder of his life from injuries he received in battle, dying in 1880. Tyndale & Mitchel Co were the premier purveyor of finest quality goods in Philadelphia, and You'll find elegant sets of French porcelains and china, crystal, will have been made for the firm, which was in business from 1842, still in business to early 1900s. This set have the Haviland mark dating them to 1882. GDM is Gerard Dugraisseiz & Morel, to narrow further to "factory decorated".

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The plates show little wear for their 140 years, and while these certainly are survivors of a larger original set, having 6 alike and in such beautiful condition is rare! No chips, no cracks, if crazing, I don't see it. The plates have been displayed rather than used. They are 9 1/8" in diameter with a scalloped rim, and they're 1 5/8" in depth (soup plates). Photos show each one separately, as they're a work of art, each one. They weigh just under 1 lb each plate.
