Fabulous & rare large antique French Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era boulle style 15 7/8" chest or jewelry casket, a gorgeous serpentine shaped box with natural shell veneers, brass & gilt ormolu accenting and "Fontaine du Havre" maker mark! Isn't this one beautiful! Just in from France and I was quite pleasantly surprised at the larger size and wonderful condition, age considered of course. A few flaws but, as you can see in the images, this one would be right at home on display in the Napoleon III apartments in the Louvre. Oh, just saying that makes me miss traveling over the past 12-18 months, just painful! An exceptional piece here and one you're sure to simply fall in love with, don't miss it!
Very good condition, age considered. No losses to the shell veneers that I can see with just a hairline crack or two and some crazing or haziness visible in a few spots. It appears that all of the brass edging and ormolu accents have recently been cleaned. There is one restoration to note, the rear left side leg/foot is a replacement but the box stands level and steady. The interior appears to be the original silk lining with some tears and aging but fully intact. Working lock with key. See pictures for all measurements.
