Gorgeous antique Napoleon II or Victorian era hand painted "illuminated" depiction of Gabriel with wings & trumpet on wood panel and displayed in a majestic 18" tall carved and richly gilded wood Gothic frame! A truly magnificent piece, only a few chips to the rich, thick gilding on the frame and the Gothic styling with spires & final are superb! Likely Italian in origins, most in this style were though the painting is not signed that I can see and there are no marks on the frame that I've found. Stunning no matter. The painting truly exceptional in both the detail condition really. Hand painted on what is about a 1/2" thick wood panel. The frame in hand carved wood with that overly thick gilding, virtually dripping gold. A museum quality piece and a remarkable devotional and/or decorative accent!
Very good condition. The finial has been broken off and repaired with a mahogany panel securing it now. A few small chips or missing spots to the thick gilding on the frame but no other flaws that I can see. The painting is also in superb condition, I see no real notable flaws other than a slight 'scratch' or 'scuff' or two. See images for all measurements.
