The 19th century elegant little carved figures, Swiss Black Forest works of sculpture that seem unimaginable to have carved, and imagine how rare to find ones that remain fully intact like this one. Most often we find thread spools, both men and women's figures. We don't find them often! Even more rare are those that are goblets, or some refer to them as string ball or crochet caddies. This one is exceptionally rare. Those who collect sewing antiques will realize how rare. Those who collect Black Forest will also recognize the rarity and excellence of this goblet. Full measurements are noted on the photos, but it is 7.5" tall overall.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. The arms are slender as toothpicks, yet remain intact. I can note that each has a small chip to the slender rim of his hat, and there is one chip along rim above the base (see images). The carving is impossibly delicate - a true museum piece. The Black Forest woodlands or tree-like pillar and cup up top are each perfectly preserved. These goblet items are the RAREST of all of these we've ever found. Don't miss it!
