Delightful antique Black Forest hand carved 9 1/8" tall jovial figure, a match or toothpick holder with multi-color wood finish and fabulous detail! These 19th century elegant little carved figures, Swiss Black Forest works of sculpture that seem unimaginable to have carved, and imagine how rare to find ones that remain after all of these years. Most often we find thread spools, both men and women's figures though we don't find them often! This one is exceptionally fine. Those who collect sewing antiques will realize how rare. Those who collect Black Forest will also recognize the rarity and excellence of these little, relatively delicate figures. One of two similar pieces, both match or toothpick holders we think and each fantastic in its own way! This one could also be sewing related though, the base doubling as a thread spool and some sort of velvet covered pin cushion in the pack on his back and he'd be complete. As charming as can be!
Very good condition, age & materials considered. Possibly some small nips here and there but, as you can see, he's in spectacular shape. See images for all measurements.
