Elegant antique French Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era 12pc silver & solid shimmering mother of pearl handled 7 3/8” dessert knife set with original steel blades and in the original fitted storage and/or presentation box! Of all the styles of antique knives that we’ve acquired and sold, the mother of pearl handled ones have always been my favorite. The beautiful shimmering opalescence, weight and coolness to the touch just can’t be beat. No hallmarks on the silver caps and collars but they’re surely .800 to .950 silver. The blades are the original pre-stainless ones so do have some very light age tarnish visible but far less than what you might expect given their age. The inside of the box lid and blades are all marked “E. Keltz Strasbourg”. A beautiful set, don’t miss them!
Very good to excellent condition. As noted, the blades are pre-stainless so you can see some faint age tarnish/corrosion marks though they’re really dark spots at this point, no pitting. No chips, cracks or repairs to the mother of pearl and no dents or damage to the silver. The box is a bit aged but fully intact. See pictures for all measurements.
