A superb set of 2 c.1700s Aubusson woven tapestry chair backs, perfect to make up into focal point for a pair of luxuriant down filled and lushly trimmed pillows for your bed or sofa. You know the ones. In our designer markets close to home, these would be made up and offered in the range of $2500 each as pillows. You're handy! You can make your own and have the look and the value but not the expense. I've even made my own. They're simple to do. The more lush your trim, and gorgeous your velvet or silk fabric used, the better. Alternatively, I've seen some like these made up with a tight gingham fabric and simple trim/fringe and they were to die for - great for a country French kitchen settee or similar spot.
Very good to excellent, having been chair backs, these do not exhibit the tattered thread damage of having born weight as chair seats did. The back panels are usually in quite remarkably good condition for use as pillows, and this pair is no exception. There are no holes, no tears or weakened canvas (linen) and the palette is splendid. Addition of the birds is just all the better. They are not rectangular, but shaped like a chair back, but roughly the measurements are 16.5" x 16". Trim out the border in a covered piping and they'll work beautifully into up to a 22" square pillow. These are from my private stash, collected over a lifetime. I kept the best ones. I've always intended to make them up. But here they are, still waiting for someone to have the time to make them fabulous. Is that someone you? Designers snap these up. Don't miss out! Will be sent out rolled, as they have been stored, in archival tissue.
