Superb fish plates, 19th century to Belle Epoch era finery, 9 plates from a larger original set of hand painted and artist signed 9 1/4" cabinet and service plates. Usually these elegant sets were made with 12 plates and a long large platter and a sauce boat, all painted in matching patterns. The group of 9 plates offered here consists of 5 variations of fish (4 sets of 2 matching and then 1 of another fish) but every plate has sea florals and or corals, each different than the others, so every one is different. Laced at rim in gold with little wave overlaps of raised gold - very beautiful. The artist signature, "Sinamaud" appears on each plate. The firm they were made for is a top luxury seller, Ovington Brothers, NYC, NY, and the plate company is Tesseman & Vogt, T&V, Limoges, France.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the 9 plates have no chips, no hairlines, no cracks, no surface abrasion and no utensil marks. There is no crazing to glazed backs or to the hand painted surface. They display beautifully, will layer at table, but please do not serve fish on these - eating from them will leave utensil marks. Wonderful placed on your chargers or ornate dinner plates, then lifted and replaced with a glass plate with fish course (as example). The gold trim elevates these to a formal table.
