Wonderful antique 19th century English Victorian era gilded bronze 3pc writer's desk set including 6 5/8" inkwell, letter opener and 'porte plume' or pen tray with large banded agate medallion accents and mechanical inkwell button with G.B. & Sons English maker & registry mark! The inkwell featuring three large agate medallions around the base and another crowning the sphere well, the pen tray with one at the center and three adorning the handle of the letter opener. All with raised or applied bronze setting and ornate surroundings. Wonderful decorative appeal and these old medallion, particularly agate, accented pieces always seem to be popular. The inkwell with a mechanical push-button that releases the lid, the button itself with the maker mark for "G.B. & Sons" of London along with the English patent or registry mark. A fabulous desk or writing table top ensemble and one of several truly superb old inkwells and writing related pieces that we're adding this week so, be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks!
Good to very good condition. The inkwell has a two-toned appearance with the majority having a coppery hue with the settings/accents and handles in a gold color. There are several 'nicks' to the blade of the letter opener. Surface scuffing on most but not bad with age considered. The inkwell has the original interior fitting, a bronze top with attached glass ink pot. The button releases the top but it doesn't spring up as it would have when new. No chips, cracks or damage to the agate. See pictures for all measurements.
