The history of French cabinetry is fascinating, and to this day is a trade taught through an apprenticeship system, Masters teaching and having as shop assistants those who will eventually become Masters. At intervals, the apprentice is tested in his skill mastery by being required to design and make a miniature or scale furniture piece. This is one such. Some think of them as doll furniture, but they are one of a kind custom crafted or bespoke items. Now and then I see one noted as being a spice or pharmacy cabinet. There are some telltale signs, though, like hand cast or crafted hardware, key escutcheon, etc., which is also part of the capabilities the apprentice must learn. So this very beautiful handcrafted miniature armoire or wall cabinet survives beautifully, a charming bit of history. Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Dating last half of 1800s, I really see no flaws to note. Photos show it from all angles of view. The 2 shelves are original, braced at sides, but lift up and out, can be replaced with glass if one might wish to light the top and use as a display armoire. That would also require 2 small bun feet to the back of the armoire so it will stand on its own. As it is now, it is a wall hanging cabinet.
