Charming oil painting on thick pressed card, Impressionist influence portrait of a military soldier holding up his rifle with bayonet, guard house in distance. The artist has signed both front and back, "L. Bonnamy" and I have not yet found reference to that artist. The painting has a country or folk feel to it, perhaps that of a young artist. No evidence of it ever having been in frame (no edge marks a frame might leave). Intimate size at 13.5" x 10.5", it is 1/4" thick and has foxing at corners as shown. Larger than most portrait miniatures, but will appeal to those collectors as well as anyone with an interest in military.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, as noted above it is on a thick pressed card which has a little foxing to bottom corners in particular, from age. At angles one can see crazing to the blue paint in particular (his jacket), and a little in other areas. A great themed image, if you're an expert in uniform and rifles, and can put me into a tightened date range on this one, I'd appreciate your help. TIA
