Heavy gilded or 'dore' bronze oval snuff or patch, bonbon surmounted by a hand painted miniature painting, a portrait of a figure who might be slightly stylized Marie-Antoinette. Beautifully crafted, entirely lined in natural shell, the painting still protected under its slightly convex and polished cover glass. In the manner of late 1700s snuffs, but I sense it is into the early 19th century, instead. Full measurements are noted on our photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Light rub-loss to the gilded finish, which corresponds to it having been held and used. Clean interior might suggest a bonbon of the Palais Royal theater confectionaries to be kept as a souvenir. No scent of snuff, clean and lightly waxed. There is a very fine 1" long arch hairline, no chip and not spreading further, on the shell at bottom and marked in our photos for your review. Painting is a gorgeous little thing, costume brilliant in color. Her face has very slight disruption but it's only 1/4" from chin to hairline, and quite amazing as it is. Hinge and smooth closure, no dings nor dents anywhere.

We also recognize the vast cultural history we preserve with our care and reverence for these antique objects, and agree with CITES that objects over 100 years of age have nothing whatsoever to do with species depletion in our current world. 

Our offering exceeds the age limitation of "more than 100 years of age", and is well within the exemption for CITES regulation. If imported, met the CITES regulation. This item will be handled and shipped from our Utah business, and is not available for shipment internationally, nor within the USA to California, NY, Nevada, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington if it contains ivory, sorry.
