Last half of 1800s, this is a superb landscape done in the manner of the late Impressionists to early Modernists. Artist signed, Henri Baret, but undated, the very old canvas on wood stretchers has been backed with a stronger fresh canvas for conservation (typical manner in France) and the painting is quite remarkable and most appealing. Whether you will ultimately frame it or display it just as it is, the palette and composition will draw you in over and over. So soothing! I've tried to capture it in sections so you can see the play of color and shape, but appreciate the whole - quite exceptional, all in all. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition, 19th century oil painting on stretched canvas, it is in fine shape and has no flaws to note, really. Whether you wish to frame it or hang just as it is (a French apartment choice), the bold brush and elegantly conceived palette is sure to please! No holes, no tears, no missing oil paint. Signed lower left. I have not researched this artist yet.
