This is one of the charming trinkets or souvenirs that remain so popular even now, nearly 200 years later. Dating about c. 1830, this is one of the more ornate and larger pressed brass goat carriages with a carriage bowl of fine opaline. Attached to an alabaster base or plinth, you can see a pocket watch hook there on the back of the goat's harness. These are called 'vide poche' (empty pocket) and were a regular feature at bedside to hold one's pocket watch and chain, perhaps other jewelry. Souvenirs of the Grand Tour, as well. Full measurements noted on the photos.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good to excellent condition for age and type, the piece is entirely sturdy and beautifully preserved without damage to the ormolu which supports that undamaged half-egg of opaline glass. The alabaster plinth doesn't have chips but does have the single flaw of a fine tight hairline across where the drilled holes for wagon or cart mounts are made. It does not seem to have been a break, it's so perfectly tight, but bears mention.
