A spectacular c.1840-50 original miniature painting of a beautiful and slightly portly young woman, fit out in the highest fashion of her era, jewelry and lace in evidence, as is the serene visage of the well-to-do. The frame is wood, a more bronze mat holds the image well, protected beneath its original cover glass. Lovely soulful brown eyes that come alive on the small wafer that serves as canvas. Alas, I find no signature, but definitely by a gifted artist. Her bottle curls and clothing help us to date her, as does the style of frame. These make wonderful wall art for your doll house, by the way, or are lovely bits of a time long ago, and exceptional fine art paintings on their own.
Very good to excellent for age and type, she has no warp, no chip or crack to the wafer/canvas, and is well protected within original frame. Frame has evidence of age, and the bronze mat does as well. All combined - fabulous! Measurements found on the photos.
