This is a project piece. Perhaps you'll want to plait a lock of your loved one's hair and make it your own mourning ring. The ring is being sold as you see it, the one rough spot in the plaiting of chestnut hair, a little splitting to the very old 18k (acid tested) gold mount into which the hair plaiting is attached. I'd take it on as a project, but here it's sat now for several years and I still have not done a plaiting for it. Isn't it just such a beautiful old thing, though. Dates to late Georgian to early Victorian era, not later than c1850. Size is irrelevant, really, since it stretches as it is, and really is to be worked, but it has been a gentleman's ring, larger than most. The gold is approximately 5/8" long, 1/4" wide.
Good condition for age and type. This one has been worn a lot, shows thinning of the gold on the underside and a couple of small splits. The hair plaiting has obvious damage. Someone must have truly truly loved whomever they mourned with this ring. A beloved wife - it's a man's ring. Something rare and special in the item and in the obvious wear, isn't there.
