The outer case is leather-clad, beautifully crafted and gold pique (likely 18k, but I can't test it). A fine early to mid-1800s or Victorian era (Charles X: c.1830s to Napoleon III: c.1850-70) snuff box, 3 1/8" diameter so likely a table snuff rather than vest pocket. Beautiful to collect, display. I use an old one, gorgeous pique work, to house my jewelry overnight at bedside. This would be wonderful for a gentleman to use in same manner. Great container for your collection of cuff links, for instance, perhaps displayed open.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Our photos show it very well for your inspection. Very unique inlaid gold, lots of it, very fine craftsmanship and showing only a little missing here or there. The leather is supple, still, and very nicely preserved, as you can see. No chips other than a lightly rough spot on bottom rim that more represents missing gold inlay. Such elegant work!
