Always searching out these rare larger 19th century garnitures to be made over into fabulous accent lamps. The large ones like this 11.5" tall (sturdy base is 9" x 7 5/8" oval) are rare to find, particularly in pairs and in fine condition - they're simple to drill and mount with a lamp fixture up top, a lamp shade toned to your decor. Or, use as candlesticks, candle stand. The tops in this pair are not drilled deep, which leads me to believe they were not epergne stands, but were topped with oil lamps in their original form. That could also be done, as the top recessed flat area is 1.5"+, would also hold larger candles. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Lots of photos to show you that there are really no loss at all to any of the 4 large birds, no cracks in base, the very tiniest nips perhaps to very top rim where oil lamps likely were mounted. Rare enough to find a pair. Rarer to find a large pair. And rarer yet to have them in such fine condition. I'd love to see the pair of accent lamps you'll make out of these, whomever buys them.
