Delightful antique Victorian era Swiss Black Forest hand carved trophy style wall mount, a branch & oak leaf accented plaque with solid wood bus of a hunting dog or hound, complete with collar! We normally see these plaques with trophy antlers of small roe deer or chamois horns, this one with the carved bust of what was likely a beloved hunting dog. Wonderful detail, hand carved in solid wood, the figure medium sized with a length of 6.75" from nose to ears. A wonderful decorative accent!
Very good condition, age considered. There is a repaired split to the plaque on the left side and it appears the outside tips of the dog's ears have been chipped off (a lot of times these thicker, solid wood carvings were fashioned from panels or blocks of wood glued together to get to the size needed for the carving and the ear tips must have been added strips for the depth). A small chip or two to the plaque but, basically, just as you see it. All measurements are noted on the images.
