Fabulous antique Victorian era Dieppe style 3.25" square pocket watch box, a marvelous ivory encased casket with highly detailed carved ivory lid medallion depicting a deer figure, branches and foliage and with the original interior watch holder fitting! We've had old brooches and jewelry in this style, extremely fine hand carved ivory with Black Forest or Animalier style figures. This the first ever pocket watch box I've seen and so just had to have it. Possibly of French Dieppe origins though I can't be certain. The interior has a removable fitting to hold the watch and even an ivory easel stand. Fantastic, one for the pocket watch and/or box collectors, don't miss it!
Very good condition, age considered. There are visible hairline splits in the top center lid panel and a small base corner nip or two. The interior appears all original but does show its age. The figural medallion on the lid is quite amazing, the deer missing the outer horns and a section of the outer front leg. See pictures for all measurements.
