Dating to 1830s, an English family portrait, each oil painting on thick wood panel, then matted and framed to create a complimenting composition. The outer frame is large, as you can see in our final photo which shows it hanging. Will anchor a wall or hang alone as the historical work of art it truly is. Mentioning same, the artist did not sign the portraits, which I note are each portrait miniatures. I've shown each one out of the mount/frame. A few dust specs captured the photography lights, but the paintings are excellent, full of detail and charm. A well-conceived foursome, and the family spaniel included, of course. Full measurements noted on our photos. Outer frame: 21.5" x 19" x 2" wood with gesso appliqué.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, 200 year old frame has a few small losses to gilded gesso (which can be easily touched up if one wishes it). The 4 small paintings are on heavy wood panels 1/4 to 3/8" thick. Oil paintings survive beautifully without canvas damage or tears. Any very slight surface issue to oil paintings hides behind the mat. A few tiny rubs commensurate with age. A rather 'English folk art' feel to them.
