Our painting is a miniature of the instantly recognizable Italian Renaissance oil painting by famed artist, Titian (Piece di Cadore 1488/90 - Venice 1576). The painting is referred to or called "La Bella", or Portrait of a Lady. Ours is one painted as a souvenir for Grand Tour to Victorian visitors who would have loved the art and wanted to take a likeness back home. Signed by artist E. Bassi. No photography that long ago, artists made meager living creating miniatures of the most famous and beloved art in the Louvre, particularly. Superb combination of frame with swag and basket, and perfectly preserved painting which is backed in kid leather with notation of "Duchess of Urbino" in pencil, which has no relationship to this painting. Full measurements noted on photos, but is 8.25" tall, hanging loop back.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The painting is exceptional, quite magnificent detail, rich gown and worthy of the title - skin tone's stunning. No warp nor loss but one can see a fine tight hairline along far right, the worst area visible near the artist's signature (see detail photo). Cover glass intact. The old frame has not been polished and has a nice patina, could be polished more to gold finish. I believe the fabric mat has been refreshed in the last century.
