A fine set of mid-1800s vanity jars from some large and expansive dressing table set, the two vanity jars you see each are topped and rimmed in fine French dore bronze, brilliant and worked in a guilloche (machined) patterning. They bear the images of Marie-Antoinette on one and one of her favorites, Miss Elisabeth (sister of King Louis XVI) on the other. They are each rouge pot size, almost, or patch box size. They are 2.25" in diameter and 2.25" tall when caps are in place.

Very good condition for age and type. There are no chips, hairlines nor cracks on either of the wheel cut crystal jars. There is no damage other than some obvious age and a slight patina in recesses on the dore bronze fittings (these are surprisingly heavy). The cover glasses remain fully intact. There is the single notable flaw of the slight damage to paintings which is moisture collection on the interior. This happens when someone gives something like this a wet water/soap cleaning. A little moisture collects and works against the paintings. Alas, even so, it is on the periphery and you can still see very clearly the image of the 2 beautiful ladies. A lovely old set and a great bargain owing to the slightly fuzzy paintings. I wish we had the entire large set from which these two survive. I'm sure they would have been housed in some marvelous large travel chest/vanity box.
