RARE pair of Georgian era costumed people of Italy in sand-sized glass tesserae micro mosaics. I'm still working through a lifelong collection of antique Italian micro mosaics, and this is a darling little one, never mounted. Some time ago I bought out unmounted gems, cameos and micro mosaics from a generational small jeweler's boutique and some of these unmounted ones were among the collections. Since that time I have added even more to my own collections. The bright costumed pair in these 2 are exceptional. This is a museum quality pair. 28mm, ready to be made up into your own jewelry choice. Is it Elisabeth Locke whose jewelry designs using these antique bits have skyrocketed in value? Perhaps eventually you'll see this pup worked up and on her site. I know several of my unmounted items have found home there in the past. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, very minuscule nicks to beveled ridge, not so much visible to the eye in normal size, but we've greatly enlarged the pieces so you can see what would otherwise be missed. There is evidence these 2 were once in mounts, a slightly roughed line midway up the sides of the beveled plaques, and likely the imperfections of corner chips would indicate an effort to dismount them from a gold jewelry mount. On these 2 remaining pieces from what must have been a stunning parure of jewelry, there are no serious issues such as basin shatters, lifts to the sand-sized glass tesserae, and no cracks, ready to enjoy as they are or create your own bespoke fine jewelry items. Made up again as jewelry, any imperfections will again be hidden beneath the gold mounts. This pair are RARE!
