One of my personal favorites. Oh, the portrait is magnificent, c.1750-70s, quite a French dandy. Not only the elaborate clothing, but that really is a pink tint to his hair. We see this profile portraiture primarily before c.1770, very rarely afterward other than in cut silhouettes. The painting has only been photographed through the slightly convex original cover glass, the 18k gold mount didn't seem to want to come out easily for me so I left it entirely in place. We don't, therefore, know if a signature or any ID might be found along outer rim (often where a signature can be found, hidden by the gold mat/mount) or perhaps in the backing vellum or paper.
Very good to excellent for age and type. From 250-270 or so years old, a true museum piece. The fine Louis XV to XVI snuff box is unbroken, even that thin inner lip, but it does have a few small bug nips. See all images. Measurements are noted on the photos, but it is typical size for era, 1 1/2" in diameter and 1" tall, closed. Fits tightly but no warp, so smoothly. Exquisite portrait!
