PLANCHON AU PALAIS ROYAL - Mathieu Planchon was a Horloger (clockmaker) whose clocks were retailed on the celebrated Palais Royal. Napoléon III Era petit version of a more typical mantel clock, this one is sized for bedside or desktop, and it has been recently serviced and works perfectly well (our clockmaker tells us there are no antique clocks that keep perfect time so we'll say it works and you can adjust). In French this size is called a pendulette and this one is a hairspring movement. Enamel face, key wind, it is marked in Roman numerals for the hour and Arabic for the minutes. You're going to ask if it's an 8-day movement, and in fact I never wind these in full or let them run, so I'm going to have to do so and add that information. Very good to excellent condition throughout with notation of just a single tiny flaw to the veneer at back top side, hardly noticeable but just to mention. The clock is beautifully formed in wood case with tortoise shell veneer. Hinged covers front and back prevent dust in the mechanism, likely part of why it still runs well. No chips or cracks to the kiln-fired enamel convex face. Beautiful coloration to all sides of the veneer. The top handle is hinged to lie flat or upright as you wish.
