An elegant portrait of a beautiful young woman in the time of Napoleon, French Empire fashion and tiara throughout. She's captured and mounted atop a lathe-turned wood (treen) table snuff - larger than most and meant as a treasured keepsake. I see no evidence of snuff having ever been inside, and the large size might almost suggest it may have been a powder box. I have not tested the facing on the round gold mount, but from experience, I would expect it is a gold facing (not gold plated). Full measurements noted on the photos, but her face is a stunning 7/8" chin to hairline.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The lathe-turned wood box is elegant and very well preserved. Our painting: She's beautifully preserved within the original mount and slightly convex cover glass, but I can see a slight shadow at bottom, indicating a slight seepage of moisture at some point. Danger in cleaning cover glass is the seeping of moisture. Please only do it with the portrait completely removed from the cover glass to avoid damage to these fragile paintings - gouache (a watercolor, essentially) on natural wafer.
