I believe this is an 18th to earliest 19th century needlepoint tapestry embroidery created to honor a couple upon their marriage, combination of their family crests, and with the names, "V. Koppenster, V. Cramm" sewn across the top. Flanking the 2 armorial crests which are surely family symbols of the 2 combining lives and futures, and doves below, with a delightful running fox toward the bottom. Stylized florals and rocaille throughout and a wonderful palette against milk chocolate brown background. One stitch at a time, it may have once been part of a chair back, which is what I would guess it to be. At 31" tall and 19.5" wide, with a new linen backing and edging so it can be used as a wall hanging, it's Fresh and clean, and could be made over into a magnificent large throw pillow. Thick velvet cord or lush fringe, passementerie ecging it - a down-filled wonderful pillow. I always thought I'd do that with this one, but my collection of these spans 30' of shelf space at our warehouse and I must admit I a not going to make them into pillows. Leaving it to you.
Very good to excellent. As noted, likely an 18th to earliest 19th century wool yarn needlepoint to commemorate a marriage, combining 2 heraldic families. I do not find and loss or damage. It's been freshly backed with heavy linen and an edging, as if someone planned to hang it as a wall tapestry. Clean, no odors. I've owned it for 15-20 years.
