Hardware still mounted, this superb pair of horizontally oriented cabinet doors would be just fabulous worked into your own cabinetry, or made up as doors to a cabinet on their own - wine, or a fine bathroom cabinet, or - you'll know just the perfect spot. Or just hang them as wall art, to which they certainly also qualify. Each has a fine carving of birds in the "Nature Morte" manner. It's not a hunting scene so much as an image of thankfulness for the coming meal. The wood is spectacular on this set; old forest growth so very heavy and with layers of moulding and trim. Carved garlands and elegance your eye will be drawn to over and over. The working lock mechanism is there, but we do not have a key at listing time. You might need a locksmith to make one for you. We'll check through our 'spares' stash, but as the offering is made, no key. Large, fabulous - full measurements are noted on photos. You really can't have something like this made these days without enormous cost.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. As noted, the wood is beautiful, warm, satin, walnut I think, close in color. Small chips to the beak (see images) but not any others I have seen. These would have been doors on a large buffet top, or hunting cabinet, perhaps. The pillar on the overlapping door is also spectacular. I'm going to want to see what you do with this pair. Yes, pair - 2! Heavy!
