These look as if they are carved Black Forest wood appliqués, but upon arrival from Europe I can see the floral bouquets are artistry done in leather. Realistic flowers and leaves, must have taken as long as if it were carved in wood. If you love and display antique Black Forest, as I do, these might be the perfect accessory to hang flanking your mantel or to lean on a tabletop nearby. They are face screens, a hand-held personal protection from the skin-blotching heat radiating from the booming fireplaces required in Victorian era to heat up a room. Ladies regularly gathered for sewing and social time, or for music, seated near enough for warmth but needing this essential device. Yes, makeup was used in that time, a wax-based concoction which actually would melt a bit, but also the bare cheek would blanch at the heat, and blush. Every fine Victorian home had sets of these (they were made in pairs like this), ready to protect their guests.  Full measurements noted on the photos, but they are 7.75" widest, with 7.25" long lathe-turned wood handles, and the overall length with handle is 15.5". The screens alone are 9.5" x 7.75.
