Spectacular & rare antique Victorian era papier mache 8.5" stationery casket, an ornate desk box with hand painted exotic bird & flowers, gold enamel accenting and wonderful condition! Here is an exceptional c. 1850s Papier Mache slanted form stationery box, casket, beautifully decorated with hand painted peacock or exotic bird and colorful flowers on lid, front and sides. Strong hinges open to reveal perfectly preserved paper-covered dividers for paper, notes, envelopes. One of the best preserved I've ever found in over 3 decades. Gorgeous!
Very good to excellent condition, no breaks or cracks. Elaborate outer form and arching slanted top - all beautifully decorated. Exceptional for its age! While there is a lock, we do not have a working key with this one at listing time. There also appears to be a missing inner divider or two. The key shown is included but doesn't work the lock.
