A fabulous large hand carved Black Forest "Fruits of the Hunt" game plaque, 19th century carver's artistry from Switzerland. This large plaque has 2 game birds and a large rabbit or hare, a rifle and such, and has just the flaw of the rabbit's missing ears. I've had this one at my warehouse for a long time. We're lax in locating another carver who can restore the ears for us, but I've learned that it won't keep someone else from falling in love with this one, either. A few of our collectors also do restoration. So we're passing this one along at a discount and only ask that you send us a photo of it with ears restored, later on. A fine anatomical study, Animalier movement, mid-late 1800s. The plaque is 27 3/8" long, 14.5" wide and the fine deep bas relief carving is 3" deep.
Very good condition for age and type, there's hardly a chip anywhere else on this one, wings are full and even the beaks are ok, but the ears of the rabbit have broken away at some point. Very slight warp to the backboard plaque, nothing that will ruin enjoyment or value. We're discounting this one in hopes our buyer can carve ears, or has a carver who can do it. Our gentleman who did some for us was aged and passed on a few years ago, bless him. And I've just not spent time to find another.
