Delightful antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved 10.5" tall epergne stand or candlestick holder, rare cock or rooster and hen figures under overhanging foliage! A quintessential work of the famed artisans of the Black Forest region, likely the Swiss Alps area. This is a single, would have once been half of a pair and would have had a tall glass flute to hold flowers (epergne). We put these to use as candle holders these days, most of us, or the make fabulous lamp bases and adding that hardware isn't really that difficult. A mantel full of them makes a fabulous collection, each set with candle. Yes, for tabletop, too. Whether hunting lodge, cabin, French Country or English manor decor, they're always perfect accents. We'd date this one c.1890-1920.
Very good condition for age and type. This one is particularly nice, hardly any loss to the figures up front and just a few chips to a tips of long reeds or foliage overhead. Measurements are noted on the photos, it's 10.5" tall.
