Fine antique Victorian to Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved 11.5" wall plaque, "Fruits of the Hunt" theme with curled horn Ibex or mountain goat figure, hunting rifle & powder horn, shallow match holding hunting satchel and wonderful decorative appeal! A few flaws to note, a chipped area at the very top point that's been rounded down with the nail hole hidden behind the upper hoof and foliage. This one is also missing its outer horn and tip of that outer ear. Marvelous detail to the hung animal though, it's a truly fine older piece! The rear shaped plaque and figural grouping are separate pieces of wood, attached with wood pegs or, more likely, simply glue. The grouping has been carved from one solid piece of wood, just imagine the care and expertise it would take to transform that blank section of wood into such an intricate and detailed sculpture! Great lodge or ski cabin decorative accents but, of course, why not keep them a little closer to home so you can enjoy them every day! A miniature version of those exquisite hunt themed wall plaques. Great for matches in the kitchen or near the fireplace!
Good-very good condition. As noted, the outer horn and ear are chipped or missing. There is also some rounding to the top where it would originally have had a point similar to that at the bottom. See pictures for measurements.
