A stunning and superb pair of all original hand carved epergne stands, Swiss Black Forest works of art from the mid-late 1800s, Animalier period. The anatomical depiction on these is wonderful. Large, they're about 7" without the glass and 8.25" tall with the old fluted glass vases set into place. Each carved base a relative mirror image of the other, the birds shown in the same position with an upward glance. The glass flutes have intaglio etched or engraved foliate decoration around the rims and only a few small rim nips to note. Each with a die stamped St. Claude so theyâre souvenirs of that Swiss Alpine area. Sure to please, donât miss them!
Very good for age and type. There is a small chip to the tip of one birdâs beak and a few tiny nips to leaf tips. One tip of a wing chipped very slightly. The glass flutes have a few tiny nips to the rim but are free of any real damage, blown glass with the pontils visible at the narrow bottom ends. A really elegant pair. You are buying a pair (2).
