Fabulous antique Victorian era Black Forest 32â tall wall barometer, "Fruits of the Hunt" theme with trophy style stag mount at the top, hunting dog or hound and fox, game birds, rifles and ornate reticulated foliage including cattails, oak leaves & acorns and all beautifully hand carved in solid old growth European oak! Rare to find one of these carved in oak, normally theyâre in a lighter linden wood as itâs an easier medium for the intricate carving. This one is the same wonderful hunt motif and with all of the most popular hunting animals & game. An aneroid barometer with open mechanism and card dial with German or Swiss German markings. The original thermometer mounted on a milk glass panel with enamel markings. A fabulous piece, impressive in both size and visual appeal.
Very good condition. There are a few chips to the top stag or deerâs antlers & ear tips, an oak leaf tip to the right of the stag and to the game birdâs tail feathers tip at the bottom, possibly a small nip or two elsewhere but no larger chips, breaks, damage or repairs to note (even the rifle barrels are intact). The barometer mechanism is intact and appears in fine working condition, as does the thermometer, though weâve not tested for accuracy. Markings on the back of the barometer for a maker though weâve not looked or found reference for any maker. See pictures for all measurements.
