Signed by the artist, by initials only, (T B or P B) and dated 1782, a much easier way to be certain of our date on this one. The elegant miniature is a work of fine art, to be sure. It is still backed with plaiting of brunette hair on the reverse side, both front and back still retaining the original slightly convex cover glass to protect it perfectly as you see it. A large Georgian bale up top, and all the frame and bale acid test at 12k, so likely an English painting and jewelry item. The old locket pendant is a museum quality piece. Just 6 years after our founding fathers formed our new world Nation, (c.1776), this gentleman's portrait was done. Surely he was a part of the news, the Revolutionary War that broke our Nation away from English rule and influence. If only we knew who this man is and how his life intertwined with the likes of George Washington, et al. A wonderful painting to wear or to display.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, nearly 250 years old and not a bit of chip nor break, crack to either cover glass, no loss to the little painting within, nor the plaited hair on backside, and the gold pendant frame is without dents, bends, damage. Slight surface abrasions perhaps, but not much to show for its very advanced age. A rare wonderful treasure. Consider, the oval is just 1 3/8" x 1 1/8" and with bale, it is another 1/2" in length. About 1/4" thick front to back, and ready to wear or display. Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do!
