Magnificent & rare antique French Louis Philippe era c. 1834-1846 18k gold on sterling silver vermeil 18pc 7 7/8" dessert knife set, hallmarks on handles with the original "Paris" marked steel blades and all with an elegant seashell accented Aesthetic pattern and armorial style heraldry with a knight's helmet & hound!! The helmets are barred, meaning they're reserved for members of the nobility. All handles bear the post-1838 French Minerve or Minerva hallmarks, the small number "1" within those marks means that the silver content is 950/1000 (.950, 95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The French vermeil pieces most commonly used 18k gold plating and so we're confident that these are also but can Mizar test them if you wish. The silversmith marks on all are for Pierre Queille, Paris circa 1834-1846. An exquisite set, rich & lustrous gold and a comprehensive service for eighteen.....don't miss'em!
Very good-excellent condition. Our pictures are large & clear and show the pieces beautifully, all in wonderful condition with just the slightest hint of wear to the vermeil and possibly a tiny dimple or two to the handles. The blades are all original, pre-stainless steel and my have a bit of age tarnish but, as you can see, they're really in fabulous shape. There are a few nicks to a knife blade or two. The box is a newer but works for storage. See pictures for all measurements.
