Beautiful antique French Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era 18pc vermeil or likely 18k gold on .800 silver 8" dessert knife set, hallmarks on handles & blades and all with an elegant Gordion Knot pattern! Post 1838 French Minerve or Minerva hallmarks on all, the small number "2" means that the silver content is 800/1000 (.800, slightly under the .925 standard for sterling silver). The lowered silver content actually common in knife blades, the other alloy (20%) adding strength so it's a plus in that respect. Silversmith marks on all but I haven't been able to find reference to the maker. A beautiful set, rich & lustrous gold and a comprehensive service for eighteen.....don't miss'em!
Very good-excellent condition. I've tried to add enough pictures to give a proper representation of how wonderful these are. Some slight wear to the vermeil on a blade or two but all in overall fabulously preserved condition! The box however has seen better days. It has a pronounced warp to the lid and will not close completely (clasps are broken also). The knives are roughly 28-29 grams each, thatâs 16.2 troy oz. or 504 grams total. See pictures for all measurements.
