A beautifully preserved original portrait miniature of the wife of Gilbert du Mother, Marquis de Lafayette, the same Lafayette who gave pivotal aid in the American Revolutionary War, c.1770s which resulted in our independence from England, which we celebrate each July 4th since 1776.  His beautiful bride shown here is Adrienne de La Fayette (1774-1807), whose oldest child was named Georges Washington La Fayette, was a beauty as you can see, and the artist captured her well in her own time. Marie Adrienne Françoise de Noailles, Marquise de La Fayette, was a French marchioness. She was the daughter of Jean de Noailles and Henriette Anne Louise d'Aguesseau, and married Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. Something of a rare portrait, the frame itself is a valuable dore bronze work of art, heavy and with easel and hanging loop back. She is perfectly protected these 250 years beneath original slightly convex cover glass. You'll want to read more about her and the couple's place in world history. Measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No warp, no chips nor hairlines, the painting is remarkable and shows beautifully in its original frame. The artist's signature seems to be C. Macins, but I'm uncertain of it. Dated 1799.  An exceptional painting, perfectly preserved.
