Charming little c.1860s French carte de visite photo frame in wood with dore bronze and pressed brass appliques. The easel back is all original and "PP" can be seen embossed on the metal part that hinges the easel stand to the frame body. Wreath top and garlands, appliques on all 4 side panels of the frame aperture and a cover glass in place, it's all ready for your photo to be put in place and on display. The carte de visite photos, unique to this size aperture, were popularized and produced from early 1860 to around 1880, and that helps us date the frame. Overall measurements are noted on the photos. With the crest up top, the frame is 5" tall.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, with all original backing and both tabs still in place on back along with the easel stand and a hanging loop. Nothing missing at all on the appliques, no damage to the old wood. A very fine antique frame. These wood and appliques frames are my favorite and I use them for my displays of family photos on tabletops, mantel. We have many antique photo and miniatures frames to list in weeks ahead. Trying to work through my own stash, so if you wish to put together a grouping for your home, just ask me for some help. I can group the ones you like and make suggestions so you'll really love the way they look together on your own desk, showing off your own favorite photos of loved ones.
