A superb early 1800s Grand Tour souvenir of someone's trip to Paris, this exceptional little box is one of my favorites. Heavier brass with deeply engraved decorative exterior and one of the nicest little back-painted glass (eglomise) views ever.
It is 3" x 2" and 1.5" tall when closed. The little handles extend beyond the 3" width. The little oval view is 2" x 1 3/8".
Very good to excellent condition with exception of a missing silk velvet lining which would have been on the inner lid. Still, it gives you a view of how the eglomise panel is mounted. The rest of the lining inside is the old silk velvet original and is complete. Heavy in the hand, this one. Not thin pressed brass. Much nicer. No chips nor nips nor hairlines on the thick and super-polished old oval of glass.
