Elegant antique French Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era 12.5" tea caddy or tea chest with brass strip or string inlay in jet black ebony or ebonized walnut, undulating carved edging, canted corners and an opulent finished interior holding two removable tea boxes, complete with matching carved lid edging! Gorgeous! No extravagant boulle style inlay here, just the quintessential Napoleon III chest and in wonderful condition! Just love the interior! A nod to the missing center veneer portions and what would likely have been a cut glass or crystal mixing bowl but the rest is spectacular! Working lock with an ornate old skeleton key, too. Just in from France, don't miss this one! Also, we're adding a couple of wonderful French boulle boxes this week so be sure to browse some while you're with us. Group and display, the visual appeal is fantastic!
Very good condition. As noted above, the interior is pristine except for that center compartment. It would originally have had a panel in there that held a mixing bowl but it has gone missing over the years apparently. Some slight wear to the ebony finish mourned some of the brass inlay but no veneer chips, loss or other damage. See pictures for all measurements.
