A little Grand Tour souvenir, likely, this is a 19th century French holy font with mother of pearl natural half shell font. The font is set into a framework of pressed brass ormolu and set with a wonderful back-painted glass (eglomise) religious devotional scene. Christ appears to a nun who kneels in an old Gothic cathedra. A great interior detail painting with pillar and window, architectural and likely a souvenir from a particular French cathedral or basilica, church.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The item is without damage, is 6.5" tall and 3.75" widest, oval format. The font extends 1.5" from the wall when hung. It also has no damage, no chips nor cracks.
