Highly rare museum quality antique French Louis XVIII to Louis-Philippe or Georgian era sterling silver 10 1/8" teapot, quite a unique form for a French piece with a crown topped "SC" monogram, thick & heavy construction and 1819-1838 hallmarks! This one bears the French Michelange or Michelangelo hallmark used only between 1819-1838, the tiny number "1" within those marks means it's in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are, of course, for the House of Odiot, Maison Odiot, founded in 1690 and gained notoriety during the reign of Louis XV and later became purveyors by appointment to King Louis-Philippe and the Royal Family of Orleans. This piece, bearing a crown engraving over the monogram, was owned by royalty as it was illegal to have the crown if not.

Odiot, as we know, is a world renowned French silversmith, maker to royalty and known for the finest of the fine (see our added info image for more information on the long and highly lauded history of the House of Odiot). Remember to just hover over or click on the images and they will expand to a much enlarged and more viewable picture.   A magnificent piece here, highly rare in shape, elegance, condition and maker. One of two wonderful Odiot pots that we're adding this week, sold separately, different styles but both glorious, don't miss them!

Very good to excellent condition. There is a faint dimple on the outer curve of the handle but no larger dents, damage or repairs that I can see. A darkened spot or two here and there but in rare condition given its age. Overly heavy, the piece weighs 22 troy ounces or 684 grams! See pictures for measurements.
