Mid to late 1800s French opaline egg cups are so pretty they could double as liqueur cordials, though I'm quite creation they were meant to serve boiled eggs. The condiment dish that matches the set is likely for mayonnaise, as the two are requisite French staples. Isn't is a great set! The generous application of gold enamel and the jewels that rise from the surface of the opaline is something that will brighten your table and your mood, for sure. I bought these in France a while back and I have fully intended to start enjoying boiled eggs more, but alas, here they sit, eggless as can be. You might have better luck in using them or enjoy displaying the set. Aren't they just too pretty!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, they look like whomever had them during the past 150 or so years used them no more often than I have - they're lovely, and little if any loss to the gold tells us they have been displayed and not used. The jewels are all in place, too. Ready to use. Thick French opaline is without chips or cracks. Fabulous!
