These have fascinated me, and a lot of collectors for centuries. The oldest ones being 200 years or more now. These whimsical egg-shaped opaline glass items would have adorned the shelves and displays of a few boutiques in the old Palais Royal, former palace of Cardinal Richelieu, and would have enticed both adults and children. Some were open and empty like this one, others might have opened to reveal a sewing set, or a ring case, or a mounted perfume flask within. A grouping of them is always fun on a side table or in your lighted vitrine. The green color you see on this one is the rarest color. We have 2 in green at this moment, and a small candlestick that I've yet to list. A few others in our shop in white right now. Ask if you can't locate them and want more than one. This one is sold by itself, of course.
Very good to excellent condition, no chips or flaws at all to report. Bright ormolu casement, no breaks. Clasp works perfectly, too. Full measurements are noted in the photos. Lovely old thing, dates to mid-1800s.
