A fabulous painting, this! She dates c.1770-1810 (depending upon how out of date is her fashion). She wears an elaborate lace bonnet and a modest fichu tucked into the bodice of her Empire waisted dress. Perfectly captured is the contented smile on her mouth and radiant through her eyes, on a face that is only 5/8", chin to hairline. We can see the hint of her gray hair. I do not see a signature. I did not open this one up. I photographed her through the convex cover glass, so some glares notable, but no damage at all. Ring top frame. Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I say that a lot, don't I. But you know we only acquire the very best for our clientele and for our own collections. There is, per usual, the couple of bits of dust showing up as tiny white dots. Even when we dust just ahead of photos, they still seem to find a spot to land, and catch the light. She is superb. Unique among most paintings, that smile.
