This is a haunting portrait, pale as a death mask, really, and yet he's very much alive. Pale hair and blue eyes with dark circles showing beneath, and a face as pale as his ruffled blouse, this boy must have been very very blond, indeed. Almost albino, isn't he? He's been hanging with my own collection on display in living room for years now and it's time to replace him with someone else. Your gain as he's a most interesting eye catching image, to be sure, and will long interest the owner/viewer. The deep blue top coat he wears and the frame type help us to date him Revolution to Restauration period in French history, though we have no date and no signature noted. Outer frame is 4.75" x 4" oval and the depth of the frame is .5", width of it is 1".
Very good to excellent condition, no damage to the panel upon which the gouache painting has been done. And the frame also survives well, these 200 (+ or - ) years. The original cover glass is intact and clean and the piece shows very well. Outer frame is 4.75" x 4" oval and the depth of the frame is .5", width of it is 1".
